Neurofeedback (NF)

Neurofeedback, commonly referred to as EEG biofeedback, is a sort of therapy that teaches people how to self-regulate their brain function using real-time displays of brain activity, such as electroencephalography (EEG) signals, or providing with other real-time feedback.

Neurofeedback aims to assist people in improving their emotional and cognitive performance by teaching them to control particular brainwave patterns linked to various mental states.

Sensors are affixed to the patient's head during neurofeedback therapy to capture brain activity. The individual is trained to alter their brain activity by adhering to certain cues or carrying out particular tasks, and the recorded brain activity is then presented on a computer screen in real-time. For instance, one could coach someone to boost their alpha brainwave activity, which is connected to relaxation and a feeling of well-being.

Neurofeedback can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Anxiety

  • Depressed

  • Sleep problems

  • Learning Difficulties

  • Emotional Dysregulation

  • Trauma and PTSD, and others

It is usually done in a clinical setting, but it can also be done at home with appropriate equipment.

Neurofeedback can help people improve cognitive and emotional function by training them to control specific brain wave patterns associated with different mental states. It is considered a safe and noninvasive therapy with few side effects. However, as with any therapy, it is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine if neurofeedback is right for you and to develop a plan that fits your specific needs.
